Gaby is an absolutely wonderful Nanny. She has been a huge asset to our household and has always been available to watch the kids even on her non-scheduled days. She's part of the family and we all love her!! Thanks! Rachael B of Gaithersburg, Maryland

To Score or Not to Score

I intended to blog on this topic and was blown away when I happened on to THE VIEW this morning and they talked about it. It's this. Why do so many sports for kids not keep score? Is life like that? Aren't we suppossed to be preparing them for life? I know, I know it's all about self esteem. I have heard the reasons for it but it doesn't make sense to me! There are no winners and losers in these games which is not how it will be when they grow up. So why is this the prevailing view today? Why all this coddling of the children? I remember dodgeball and Red Rover, Red rover let Mary Ann come over, just street games that sure had winners and losers. I don't know but I think my generation turned out alright.

The Start of School

Well school has started everywhere. What are you feeling besides relief? Does it make you think back to your Septembers in your youth? Do you wonder how you'll fill your days now that you don't have the kids there every moment? Now be honest, aren't you a little glad to have some time to yourself, maybe even rediscover naps? Lunches out with friends, maybe even join a book club? Or are you a helper type at school? We're all so different but I do know that everything does change once it's September. Even the leaves know its a changing time. If you're lucky to live where you get color you know what I mean.

I always think its good when something outside of us MAKES us change like the fact it's no longer summer but fall with school, football, beautiful trees and the slight chill in the air for some of us. Actually I don't know what happens in a place like Florida. Do you realize its September? I'd like to hear from a Floridian on this.

Also what's the difference for a parent when they are sending them off to college versus elementary school? I think it does make you think and you are very conscious of time passing and also you worry just as much as when they were little.

Why do Grandkids grow up faster than your kids?

Have you ever noticed that grandkids grow up faster than your own children. I guess to be an expert on this you have to be a grandparent but anyone could observe this phenomana. Help me out here. This is a serious issue with me. I had my own 4 kids FOREVER as little tots but grandkids are small one minute and then in college the next. How does it happen? Why don't they take as long to grow up as your children do? My dogs take longer to mature than the grandkids! Any one out there have the answer. This keeps me awake nights and I need my sleep! I will be checking for answers to this very perplexing problem.
